Father die without a will..?

My father recently passed away without living a will. He own a house in CT ( already pay off) car, bank accounts, some debts, and a piece of land in VA ( still making payment). I understand that my family have to go to probate court in CT but do we have to do the same in VA ( he reside in CT, we reside in VA)?...My mom is still alive and us kids don't object to the fact that she can have ALL his properties, what are the best steps we should take to resolve the issue? any advices would greatly appreciated...thank you
