If an Owner of a Mutual Fund Dies, What is the Probate Process?

Most mutual fund accounts have beneficiary designations. If so, the assets pass directly to the named beneficiary - probate has nothing to do with it. If there is no living beneficiary on the account, then it would become part of the deceased's estate and probated accordingly.
